This can happen when the cable is not properly wired so the load is not taking advantage of the second mate pin on the other side so the socket breaks down (over heating damaging it).

The older MacBooks & MacBook Pro’s didn’t offer USB boot support. The first Mac was the MacBook Air which came out in January 2008. It’s been a while that I’ve had to worry about it but I do believe the 2007 & 2008 models are the last ones that required boot up from either the internal optical drive or an external FireWire drive (prepped with Mac OS-X as a bootable drive). However, if the USB flash drive is not mounted on Mac, you will lose access to the USB flash drive as well as to the data stored on it. But don't worry, this page talks about the reasons for this issue, and how to fix 'USB flash drive not mounting on Mac' without data loss even if external hard drive is not showing up on Mac.

I just connected a new 43UD79-B 4K Monitor to my Macbook Pro 13, 2 but the USB-C port is not working. If I plug in a USB-C to USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) 40GB/s cable, the Mac charging indicator acknowledges the cable, but the display is never detected. The display has been veriied as working with HDMI into an adapter dongle.

- ▲0▼I`m in he same boat. My USB-C to USB-C cable is 'Ugreen'. The monitor doesn't work. My USB-c also doesn't charge my MacBook 2017 or my tablet.
- ▲0▼Hey guys, any update on this situation? experiencing similar very situation mentioned here. You guys have any new workaround or solution, please do share. Thanks
- ▲0▼I just got the monitor this morning. HDMI cable works but at 3840x2160(low resolution) @ 30hertz. I went to Walmart and got an Apple USB-C cable. Plug it in and I got a NO SIGNAL. I have the MacBook Pro 15', 2017 with Graphics Radeon Pro 560 4GB, Intel HD Graphics 630 1536MB. Please help!
- ▲0▼I just got this monitor, and in the absence of not having a cable, and not sure of what the specs should be, I borrowed this cable from my office computer to try.
It works fine. Thunderbolt 3 is designed to carry Display Port Alt Mode (which is what this is display supports). So far I have not experienced the same issues as ThomasHoward, however I have had issues with 20 Gbps TB3 cables with other monitors and other devices in the past. - ▲0▼I am having the same problem. The workarround suggested is not working for me.
- ▲0▼Computer: a brand new MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) running 10.14Cable: Cable Matters 20 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 Cable Black 3.3 Feet Supporting 100W Charging Model# B01AS8U8PUThe whole reason I bought this monitor (besides the gorgeous 43' 4K screen) was the SIMPLICITY of a single USB-C cable for Video+USB+Audio.I have continually had difficulty and annoyance with the USB-C/USB-C connection to my brand new MacBook. I think I finally figured out the secret cable-plugging ritual to make it eventually work:1) I cannot have my other computer connected via the DisplayPort which works flawlessly. Must unplug it.2) I must fully disconnect both sides of the USB-C cable from my monitor and computer4) I plugin the USC-C connector to the computer and then it usually works. It is totally unacceptable to reach behind and unplug and replug because I cannot simply plugin my computer and expect it to work as every other computer and monitor combination I have ever had. The regular DisplayPort connection is flawless but not the USB-C with Thunderbolt. If there is an LG-mandated cable that I need to buy, please tell me the exact vendor and model and I will buy it. But I think it's the monitor. 8-(
- ▲0▼I just ordered a Belkin 20 gb/s cable and am returning my Cable Matters cable, as I saw other people state that the Belkin cable does work for the monitor. Hopefully that's the fix.
- ▲5▼I'm having a similar issue with my 15' MBP 2017. I bought a 20 gbps certified USB-C/C cable, but when I connect the monitor to the computer, the computer doesn't recognize the monitor. Oddly, I've gotten it to randomly work twice where the computer is displaying to the monitor, and once established, the connection lasts all day, but when I put the computer to sleep and wake it back up, it's no longer working.
I'm not sure if it's the cable I'm using or the computer. Doesn't seem to be the monitor, as HDMI works just fine. I seem to be able to get 4K@60hz through HDMI, but I can't control the volume through the OS over HDMI, so it's frustrating.
Any recommended cables? I've already updated my displaylink drivers with the latest version from December.
